Land and Soil Conservation

As we prepare for the October–December rains, protecting our soil and land is more important than ever. Heavy rainfall can cause soil erosion, flooding, landslides and ground instability, especially in vulnerable areas.

Kenya has already witnessed the impact:

● Murang’a: Landslides in Gathugu and Musoso have destroyed homes, crops and displaced families.

● Elgeyo-Marakwet: A major ground crack in Sangin Village has raised concerns about ground instability, with several areas vulnerable to landslides.

● Kirinyaga: Kibirigwi, Nguguini and Kamweti face landslide risks, while communities near the Thiba, Sagana and Ragati rivers remain vulnerable to flooding.

We can act: Plant and protect trees, restore degraded land, protect riverbanks, maintain drainage, reduce soil erosion and avoid high-risk areas. During heavy rains, stay alert, follow official weather warnings and move to safer ground when advised.

At GMSF, environmental conservation means protecting the land that supports our communities, livelihoods and future.

Small Seeds. Lasting Impact.
