Gakami Mustard Seed Foundation (G-MSF) was honoured to be hosted by the Principal Secretary for Gender, Ms Ann Wang’ombe, during an important engagement on the upcoming Nairobi Women Peace Tournament.

As preparations for this transformative initiative continue, the Principal Secretary accompanied the G-MSF team on a courtesy call to the Governor of Nairobi City County, H.E. Johnson Sakaja. The visit formally notified the Governor of the tournament and sought his support as the initiative moves forward.

The Governor warmly received the initiative and assured the team of his full support. He recognised the importance of platforms that bring women together, promote peace and unity, strengthen communities, and create meaningful opportunities for women’s leadership and participation in community development.

The Nairobi Women Peace Tournament is founded on the belief that sport is a powerful tool for peacebuilding, social connection and empowerment. Through the tournament, women from diverse communities will come together to promote dialogue, strengthen relationships, and actively contribute to peace and development across Nairobi.

G-MSF is deeply grateful to Ms Ann Wang’ombe, Principal Secretary for Gender, for her leadership, support and commitment to initiatives that empower women and advance peace. We also appreciate H.E. Yesterday, Gakami Mustard Seed Foundation (G-MSF) had an engaging and inspiring forum with the vibrant youth from Climate Works Youth in Riruta.

We discussed opportunities for youth empowerment through our Certificate Training Programmes, skills development, sports, leadership, and community engagement. The enthusiasm and commitment from the young people were truly inspiring!

Some of the youth also volunteered to support different activities during the upcoming Nairobi West Women Peace Tournament, set to take place at Ndurarua Stadium.

The energy is high. The focus is clear. The commitment to growth and community transformation is unwavering.

The journey towards the Nairobi Women Peace Tournament – Nairobi West Region continues with great enthusiasm!

Today, both Lang’ata Constituency and Dagoretti South Constituency are holding their respective Inter-Wards Matches as teams prepare for the main tournament. These matches are helping build strong, united, and competitive teams while promoting friendship, teamwork, and sportsmanship across the wards.

G-MSF in partnership with the Community Relations Foundation is proud to champion this initiative, using sport as a powerful platform to advance peacebuilding, women’s empowerment, mental wellness, community cohesion, civic engagement, and leadership development. Through this tournament, we are empowering women to become ambassadors of peace and positive change within their communities.

We wish all participating wards every success in today’s matches. Play with passion, uphold fair play, and continue to demonstrate that sport is a powerful tool for building peaceful, united, and resilient communities.

We invite corporates, development partners, government agencies, NGOs, and well-wishers to partner with us in making the Nairobi Women Peace Tournament 2026/2027 a success. We had the honour of attending the Chief’s Baraza in Ruthimitu, where we engaged with residents on key issues that shape stronger, safer, and more prosperous communities.

Our discussions focused on women empowerment, encouraging women to embrace leadership, entrepreneurship, financial independence, skills development, and active participation in community decision-making. Empowered women are the backbone of resilient families and thriving communities, and their contribution is essential in driving sustainable social and economic development.

We also highlighted the importance of youth empowerment, inspiring young people to take advantage of education, free certificate training opportunities, innovation, and entrepreneurship. By equipping our youth with practical skills, mentorship, and opportunities for personal growth, we are preparing them to become job creators, community leaders, and agents of positive change.

The Baraza also provided an opportunity to emphasize the critical role of peace, social cohesion, and security. We encouraged residents to continue fostering unity, embracing dialogue, respecting diversity, and working together regardless of political, ethnic, or religious differences. Lasting peace and security begin with each one of us and remain essential for sustainable development, community prosperity, and national progress.
