World Cleanup Day 2026: From Clean Plates to Clean Cities

Did you know that the food we throw away is also part of the waste problem?

In Kenya, studies cited by UNEP estimate that households in Nairobi waste about 91–100 kg of food per person every year. Globally, around 1.05 billion tonnes of food were wasted in 2022.

That’s not just wasted food. It also means wasted water, land, energy, money and human effort. And when food waste ends up in landfills, it can contribute to greenhouse-gas emissions.
So, what can we do?
● Buy only what we need ●Serve reasonable portions ●Use or share leftovers.
● Store food properly ●Compost where possible ●Separate food waste from other waste.

G-MSF , we promote environmental responsibility through community cleanups, environmental education, tree planting, waste-management awareness and climate action initiatives.

This World Cleanup Day, let’s remember: cleaning our cities starts with the choices we make every day — including what we put on our plates and what we leave behind.

What is one thing you can do today to reduce food waste?

Small Seeds. Lasting Impact.
