Our Director, Dr. Margaret Gakami, was honoured to be invited as a speaker at Ndegwa Ya Gũtaara Mbeũ Njĩthĩ cia Rũrĩrĩ… where she shared a powerful message with parents, young people and the wider community.
Her message centred on the seeds we plant today and the future they create.
●Good Behaviour Begins With Us
She reminded the audience that good behaviour is about what we do even when nobody is watching. She spoke about respect for parents and elders, responsibility, discipline, good company and the importance of parents leading by example. She reminded everyone: “Hĩta itanakĩra” — resist the beginnings, because small faults can grow into destructive habits.
● Alcohol & Substance Abuse
She addressed alcohol and substance abuse honestly, warning against the seemingly harmless beginnings of addiction and the influence of peer pressure. She encouraged young people to have the courage to say no, while reminding the community that those struggling with addiction need help, guidance, accountability and support — not condemnation.
● The Seasons of Life
Dr. Gakami described life in four seasons: Planting (0–20), Growing (20–40), Harvest (40–60), and Legacy (60+). Each season carries its own responsibility — from parents investing in children, to young people building their careers and families, adults reaping what they planted, and elders passing wisdom and good seed to the next generation. She reminded us that it is never too late to replant.
❤️ We Still Have Time
Her closing message was one of hope: mistakes, wrong friendships, addiction, lost opportunities or abandoned dreams do not have to define our future. Change is possible, but the decision must come from within.
