Earlier today, our Founder, Dr. Margaret Gakami Wanjuhi Gakami , was honoured to join the Nigerian High Commissioner to Kenya, H.E. Amb. Danlami Ibrahim, and other distinguished guests at a luncheon hosted by Dr. Wale Akinyemi Resource Page in honour of the Nigerian Ladies Netball Team, who are currently in Nairobi for the African Women’s Netball Championships.
Beyond celebrating sport, the gathering created a valuable space for meaningful conversations on sports diplomacy, storytelling, family bonds, community engagement, partnerships and community policing and how these can contribute to safer, stronger and more resilient communities.
The conversation went beyond the court. Security is a shared responsibility. Safer communities are strengthened when residents, institutions, government, the private sector and civil society work together to build trust, address challenges and create opportunities.
Sport has a unique ability to bring people together. It creates opportunities to build relationships, promote dialogue, strengthen confidence and open doors for women and young people. With the right partnerships, the positive energy created through sport can extend far beyond the pitch.
G-MSF , our work focuses on community-based initiatives that plant seeds of hope, empowerment, peace, environmental responsibility and self-reliance. Building safer communities requires more than security interventions. It also requires mentorship, inclusion, livelihoods, meaningful opportunities and partnerships that address the social and economic challenges affecting communities.
Dr. Margaret was encouraged by the conversations around family and community bonds. Strong families and connected communities provide an important foundation for safer neighbourhoods. When people know one another, communicate, support each other and work collaboratively with security agencies, community policing becomes a shared approach to creating safer and more resilient communities.
Our sincere appreciation to Dr. Wale Akinyemi for bringing together such a distinguished gathering and creating a space where diplomacy, sport, security, leadership and community development could intersect.
